I have a 1968 Arctic Cat Panther. The serial# begins with BP8 and the model is P20L. It has a LLoyd400cc twin motor with a tillotson HD carb. It has 4 position ign. switch. Off/left cylinder/right cylinder/both cylinders. You can run either cylinder independently or both. The sled also has the rear gast ank holder or rack with a spare tank. I sent pics to Don from Don's Vintage Cats and he says it is a factory set up by looking at the pics, and believes it may be a 1 of 1 made or at least 1 of very few made. Anyone out there ever seen or heard of it???

Hi, Yes, nice find! Arctic did not have an actual production model with the Lloyd engine. It is probably a sled that Arctic put together to test the engine and then sold it off after they rejected the engine for use on a regular production basis. The Lloyd was imported to the States in 1967 and found their way into a number of '68 snowmobile lines. Yukon King and Sno Prince, among others. I would imagine a Lloyd salesman called on Arctic and Arctic bought one (or more) to try out. However, the Lloyd was not a very good engine (a low power-to-weight ratio compared to other engines of that time) and it is easy to understand why Cat didn't make it a part of their regular production. I'd love to see some pics of your sled!

I have a LLoyd engine in really good shape that I believe is similar to yours. I'm looking for a home for it, if you're interested. I'm in CA and if you'll ship it, it's yours. I don't want to toss it, but want to get it out of my shop. Let me know if you're interested and I can send you photos.
