What is everyone else in the club working on? I just finished a 68 Cougar with a 8 hp Kohler . This sled I bought off Ebay a few years ago from Dennis at Power Repair. The last time I talked to him he asked me if I had done anything with it. I told him that it was being worked on as we spoke. I learned that he died a while back and I wanted to show him how it looked. It was in good original shape when I got it but the rear idler sprocket was brittle and I had to make a new rear axle and design a new way of using a roller bearing instead of what Cat designed. I also put a NOS track in it. I kept everything original as could be. I painted the tunnel under the seat because it was rusting and I did not want it to get worse. Dennis told me when I bought it that it would sit and run,so I put another red tank under the hood, pulled 6 times and it sat there and idled. I kept the original bogies and replaced the necessary parts with NOS parts bought off Ebay from Tom Rowland. I alsi said before I made a new rear axle out of steel. The original was made out of a 1 inch diameter aluminum. One end of the threaded part had worn so much that it was half wore thru. I can't wait to try it on snow.
Now for what this thread was intended for, I have my 68 600 twin P-35 in the works. This one was bought a year ago in NY. This one is good original too. The motor did not have spark when I first got it so a friend took it home, tore it down and rebuilt it. I now have the suspension out. It has the original green sliders in it. Thos will have to be replaced. The front drive sprockets are brittle and those I will replace with NOS original white ones. Some day I will post pictures of my Cats. Let's keep this site active with some participation.
