Hi all - new member here, and new to snowmobiling ... well, sorta ... grew up in the Black Hills, SD and had a pair of '71 Rupp 440 sleds as kids, but that was a long time ago.
I got a couple of old Cats a number of years ago - the boys rode them a few seasons and they've just been sitting on the trailer for over 2 years now.
I finally got some free time to take one riding yesterday. Now I'm convinced I need to do a restore project. They are an '80 Jag 3000 and an 81 Jag 4000. I got the 4000 running on Sunday and rode it on Monday. Runs strong and isn't too beat up - looks like it could be an easy restore. Emptied out the fuel tank and put in some fresh gas, put a little oil in the plug holes, rolled it over a few times, cleaned the plugs, sprayed some carb cleaner in the carb and she popped off on the first pull. Must have been the carb cleaner, because on Monday morning, it took 20-30 pulls to start. Once started it ran great and idled smooth. Once warmed up, it starts on the first pull again.
The 3000 is going to take more work. It's pretty rough, hood broken in a number of places, belly pan pretty broken up. The gas guage was coated with red gunk from fuel/oil mix gone bad, so I'm sure a full fuel system clean up is in order.
Looking forward to picking your brains this summer as I get going on these sleds.
Greg
Edit - so I confused member with "joining the forum" ... didn't realize this was a pay membership ... oops ... :-)
