I'm hoping to learn more about general maintenance and repairs. I would really appreciate your help!
I own a 1991 Cheetah 440 l/c but the motor is spent! crank snapped... So I'm looking into removing the stator to see the condition of the crank case and try to determine if I can work with the motor I have or if I should replace it... found one for $325 in a local shop.. but money is tight.. having 4 older sleds that need upkeep really makes it hard to drop so much cash so fast.
I'm also repairing a 1996 Jag and having starter trouble.. I rebuilt the starter and installed it back into the sled.. it engages as soon as it gets power but immediately sticks into the gear on the clutch. I manually spin the clutch to unstick it and believe me.. it's totally wedged in there and takes some doing to get it out. can't figure out whats wrong here... any help or ideas would be appreciated!
I'm trying to build up a few reliable sleds for me and the kids... they are old enough that they want to go but can't fit on my sled anymore. So this year (incredible snow) and couldn't go out with the kids unless I took them down to the lake and let them take turns... My Oldest girl is 15 and my oldest Boy is 13 and they both love the snow and the machines! Sometimes I'm as young as they are and we really have fun, the real fun is in the trails and I'd like to keep the kids interest alive! I hope you can appreciate my situation Thanks for reading!

figured out the starter problem! I missed a bearing on the far end of the return spring and without it the engaging gear would wedge into the softer aluminum of the clutch... once I figured that out and replace the starter.. she breaths fire once again! Now if I can figure out why my ignition key won't engage the starter I'll be one step farther to putting the sled up for the summer and moving onto the next! <--- thats a sad thought!
