Hi,
I'm a new snowmobile owner/rider who has just received a gift from my brother-in-law: an old '79 El Tigré 5000 with (according to the odometer) 317 miles on it. It is in fairly good condition, especially considering the price! I got it running for him last year after which he moved it to his garage. I'm going up to his place over the weekend to really poke around in and under it. I hope to have pictures soon.
So... never having owned a sled before and not having ridden a lot I have about a million questions. I guess the first is where I might get a service manual and perhaps a parts manual. I've performed my own service work on all of my vehicles and have quite a collection of tools. Any advice on what a good home garage would need to service a sled?
Has anyone got any good resources for parts? I'm not looking to do anything fancy, I'd just like to get it running again and have some fun over the Winter riding. I'm going to go the route I did with camping... start out small and go from there. If I really get into it, I'll look into a newer sled some day. If not, I haven't got a lot invested. Of course getting the kids and wife involved and interested would be a big bonus!
When I get my information back from joining the ACCA, I'll add my number to my name.
Regards,
Russell
